Hi folks, UNC's on my college list and I'm trying to figure out their SAT requirements. Anyone know the average SAT scores for applicants who get admitted? Thanks in advance.
UNC Chapel Hill is highly competitive, drawing a high caliber of students. For the 2023 first-year class, the middle 50% SAT range was between 1360 to 1510, with 25% of admitted students scoring 1360 or lower and 25% scoring 1510 or higher.
However, for the 2024-2025 application cycle, UNC Chapel Hill is continuing its test-optional policy due to the ongoing impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. This essentially means that you have the option to submit SAT or ACT scores, but you're not required to.
If you feel that your SAT scores or ACT scores strongly represent your academic abilities, it could be beneficial to submit them as part of your application. However, if you believe your scores aren't reflective of your abilities or you were not able to take the test due to the pandemic, not submitting won't hurt your chances of admission. The admissions committee will focus more on other components of your application such as your GPA, the rigor of your high school courses, your essays, extracurricular activities, and letters of recommendation. They're looking for well-rounded students who can contribute positively to the campus community.
Keep in mind that even though UNC Chapel Hill is test-optional for the 2024-2025 cycle, having a strong SAT or ACT score can still be a contributing factor to your application if you choose to submit it.
