University of Illinois Champaign Financial Aid

Hey everyone, I've been wondering about the financial aid package at UIUC. I'm potentially interested in applying, but without solid financial aid, I'm not sure it's going to be feasible for me. Does anyone know what kind of packages they typically offer, and what factors they consider in their need-based aid? I'd also be interested to know about any merit-based scholarships they might offer. Thanks in advance for your help!

Hello! It's great to hear that you're considering applying to UIUC. When it comes to financial aid, UIUC, like other universities, takes into account many factors including income, family size, number of family members in college, and assets among others. This is usually determined by the information you provide when you fill out your FAFSA form, which then generates your Student Aid Index (SAI).

For need-based aid, UIUC mostly offers federal programs such as Pell Grants, Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants (FSEOG), Work-Study, and Direct Loans. However, in terms of university aid resources, they also provide the Illinois Commitment program, which offers free tuition and fees to in-state students from families with an income of $67,100 or less.

As for merit-based scholarships, UIUC does have several options. The Illinois Commitment program also offers a component for out-of-state students, known as the Illinois Commitment Plus, which provides merit scholarships on top of the need-based coverage of tuition and fees. They also offer department-specific scholarships, some of which may look at academic qualifications beyond financial need.

Remember, however, that your actual financial aid package will depend on your specific situation. It's a good idea to utilize the net price calculator on the UIUC website to estimate your personalized cost of attendance.

Finally, the process for applying for scholarships can vary, so be sure to check out UIUC's scholarship page for more details and deadlines. Good luck with your application process!
