Hey all, I'm planning to apply to NYU next year and writing my SAT soon. Can anyone tell me what kind of SAT score I should be aiming for to get into NYU? Also, do they happen to look more at the Reading/Writing score or the Math score? Would be great if someone could shed some light on it!
NYU is a highly competitive school and while they do not have a strict cutoff for SAT scores, for the most competitive chance of admission, you should aim to score in the top 25% of admitted students. So to give yourself a competitive edge, you should aim for a score in the high 1400s to mid 1500s.
It's also worth noting that NYU, like most universities, does not typically place more weight on either the Math or the Reading/Writing section of the SAT. Both sections are considered equally in their admissions process. However, if you're applying to a more specialized program like Stern School of Business or Tandon School of Engineering, a higher Math score could potentially be more beneficial.
As you prepare for the test, don't neglect your academics and extracurriculars, as NYU does take a holistic approach to admissions and these factors will also play an important part in your application. Also, while standardized test scores are important, it's just one part of your application. Your grades, rigor of classes, extracurricular involvement, and essays are also crucial components of your application.
Best of luck with your SAT and your NYU application!
