Hello everyone. I'm pretty nervous as I'm gearing up to apply to colleges next year. In particular, I'm interested in UC Merced. Does anyone know what GPA they look for or is there a minimum GPA requirement to apply there? Thanks in advance.
UC Merced, like all University of California campuses, recommends students to have a GPA of 3.0 or better for California residents and a GPA of 3.4 or better for non-residents. These GPAs should be determined using UC's weighted and capped GPA calculation method.
However, it's important to note that these are merely suggestions and not requirements. UC Merced doesn't have a minimum GPA requirement. Your GPA is just one factor considered in the application process. Other components, such as your transcript's rigor, leadership and participation in extracurricular activities, and your personal insight questions, are crucial as well.
In fact, UC Merced's admitted student profile for Fall 2024 had an average GPA of 3.64. This can vary year to year, but it gives you a general idea of the GPA of admitted students.
Remember, your application will be viewed holistically, so even if your GPA is lower than what is typically admitted, other strengths in your application can potentially offset it. Best of luck with your college applications!
