Hey guys! I'm a junior, and UCI is my dream college. I'm feeling a little overwhelmed and anxious about understanding their admission requirements. Can anyone who's gone through the process share their insight? Thanks!
Sure, happy to lay out the basics of the admission requirements for UCI (University of California - Irvine).
To apply, you'll want to complete and submit the UC application, which opens on August 1 and is due by November 30. UCI, like all UC schools, doesn't require a supplemental application or extra essays, so all your details will be contained within the UC app itself.
There are two main parts to the UC application: your grades/academic record and personal insight questions.
Starting from 9th grade, UCI will look at your grades in all academic courses. They want to see that students are challenging themselves with a rigorous course load, so it's good to take advantage of honors, AP, or IB classes if available at your high school. You'll submit your transcript information directly into the application.
In addition, UCI requires responses to four Personal Insight Questions. There are eight questions to choose from, and you get to pick the four that you feel most confident responding to. Each response can be no longer than 350 words. The questions aim to learn more about your experiences, accomplishments, and personal qualities.
For the 2024-2025 application cycle, UCI is test-blind. This means UCI will not consider SAT or ACT scores in their admissions decisions at all.
Selected applicants also may be asked to submit letters of recommendation. However, this is not a requirement for all applicants and will be communicated to you if necessary.
Remember, the UC application filing period is October 1 to November 30, so you'll want to start preparing your application as early as possible to make sure everything is completed in time.
Hope this helps you get started on your journey to UCI!
