Aid and Scholarships at UVM?

Howdy! I recently set my sights on University of Vermont. Money's a bit tight though, so I was wondering what the financial aid scene is like over there. Anyone have any advice or firsthand experience ?

Hello there! University of Vermont (UVM) does offer financial aid to its students. The university focuses heavily on need-based aid, so filling out the FAFSA and, if you are interested, the CSS Profile by the deadlines (usually in the first quarter of the year) is integral to securing aid.

The FAFSA calculates your family's Student Aid Index (SAI), which universities use to determine the amount of federal and sometimes institutional aid you're eligible for. The CSS Profile is an additional financial aid application required by some colleges to distribute their institutional aid. It's a paid application, but fee waivers are available for eligible students. The CSS Profile offers a more detailed look into your family’s finances and can work to your advantage if your financial situation is more complex.

For scholarships, UVM does offer merit-based scholarships as well. They have a comprehensive page on their website with information about their scholarships. Notably, their Presidential Scholarship, which is quite generous, is based on academic achievement. It's automatically considered as part of your application so you don't need an additional application for that. There are other scholarships listed on the UVM website, so I would definitely take a look at these as well.

Remember, financial aid packages can sometimes be negotiated. If you receive your financial aid award and feel that UVM did not fully understand your financial situation, most schools are open to reassessing your aid package. You'll need to contact the financial aid office directly to go over the specifics of that process. Good luck!
