Decent Score on ACT Writing?

Hey all! I'm prepping for the ACT, but I'm not sure what a good score is for the writing portion. Anybody got advice on what score I should be aiming for?

When it comes to the ACT writing score, they range from 2-12, as four domains are each scored from 2-6 and then averaged to get your final score. While the average score changes slightly each year, it's typically around a 6-7. However, competitive colleges often seek students whose writing scores are in the 8-12 range.

As you practice, remember that the ACT writing test assesses your skills in argument development, language use, and organization/ideas. Strong essays generally have a clear thesis, solid reasoning, and good command of language with a variety of sentence structures.

Ultimately, aim for the highest score possible, but a score of 8 or above can be seen as competitive. Keep in mind, though, that each college has its criteria, so it would be best to research the average ACT Writing scores for admitted students at the universities you're interested in.
