AP Bio Exam Structure?

Hey guys! I'm taking the AP Biology exam soon and I'm a bit worried about its format. Can anyone give me a rundown of what to expect on the test -- like the types of questions, how much time Per section, and how it's scored?

The AP Biology exam is divided into two sections: multiple choice and free response.

The first section consists of 60 multiple choice questions, which you'll have 90 minutes to answer. This section makes up 50% of your total score. The questions generally consist of discrete question or questions grouped in sets with other questions, all relating to the same stimulus material, such as a data chart or a description of a biological scenario.

The second section is the free response section, which also accounts for 50% of your total score. This section consists of six questions and you'll have 90 minutes to complete it. The six free response questions can be split into two categories:

- Two long free response questions: You will have a 10-minute reading period, then you will have 80 minutes to answer all 6 questions. These questions might involve a design of an investigation, analyze an environmental problem, or predict the results of a genetic cross, for example.

- Four short free response questions: These tend to be more direct questions such as defining a term or explaining a biological concept.

Each section is scored independently and the scores are then combined to create your final AP score, which is on a scale of 1 to 5. For the free response section, total raw points can range from 0-60, and this score is then converted into a weighted score to combine with the multiple choice section for your final AP score.

In terms of preparation, it is important to familiarize yourself with the format and types of questions on the test. Work through practice exams if possible, and make sure to understand fundamental concepts and be able to apply them to various contexts. Lastly, remember that the exam aims to assess your understanding and application of biological concepts rather than rote memorization.

Good luck on your AP Biology exam!
