Hello all! I will be taking the SATs soon but I'm a little unclear about the logistics. Can anyone tell me what time the testing normally starts and how long it typically lasts? I'm really trying to prepare myself well. Thanks in advance!
Hello! As of 2024, the SAT is now fully digital, which also led to a change in test duration and structure.
The digital SAT typically starts around 8 am at most testing centers. It's generally best to arrive 30 to 45 minutes early. Here's the specific breakdown for the test:
- Reading and Writing: Two 32-minute modules, to complete a total of 54 questions. This means you have approximately 71 seconds per question.
- Math: Also arranged in two 35-minute modules, to complete 44 questions. This gives you about 96 seconds per question, or a little over a minute and a half.
In total, the duration of the digital SAT is about 134 minutes, or a little over 2 hours. Please note there will be breaks between sections, which usually adds an extra half-hour or so to the total testing time. Be prepared to be at the testing center for around 3 hours.
In preparing for your SAT, I highly recommend using official practice tests to mimic the actual test day experience as closely as possible. Good luck with your preparation!
