Understanding ACT score percentile chart

Hey guys, just curious here. I've been seeing this term 'ACT score percentile chart' thrown around quite a bit. Can anyone explain it to me in simple terms? I'm wondering where my ACT score places me on such a chart. Any help would be awesome!

Absolutely, happy to help you out. The ACT score percentile chart is basically a way to compare your ACT score with the scores of other students who took the test.

Here's how it works: If you get a certain score, the chart can tell you what percentage of students scored the same as or lower than you. For instance, if your score is at the 75th percentile, that means you did equal to or better than 75% of the students who took the test. Conversely, 25% of the students scored higher than you.

The percentiles really come into play when colleges view your ACT score. Different schools have different expectations, and the chart can give you an idea of how competitive your score might be in their applicant pool. For example, a highly selective school might look for scores that are in the 90th percentile or higher, meaning the student's score, is higher than 90% of test takers.

It is important to remember, though, that while test scores are a part of college applications, they're not everything. Schools also consider things like your GPA, extracurricular activities, letters of recommendation, and personal essays.

Just keep in mind that the percentile chart is a tool to give you a sense of how you compare to other test-takers, not a definitive prediction of your success in college applications. It is one factor among many that colleges consider.
