The GPA Game - Virginia Tech Edition

This might sound a bit neurotic but does anyone know the average GPA for admitted students at Virginia Tech? As a current high school junior, I'm trying to gauge where I stand. Thank you in advance!

It's not neurotic at all! You're just being proactive about your college admissions process which is commendable. The average GPA for students admitted to Virginia Tech is usually around 3.92.

It's important to note that this is just an average, which means some students were admitted with lower GPAs and some with higher. Don't be discouraged if your GPA is slightly below this. Colleges, including Virginia Tech, look at other things beyond just GPA, like test scores (if submitted - Virginia Tech is currently test-optional) your extracurriculars, and your essays.

If you want to know how your application as a whole stacks up at Virginia Tech, I'd check out CollegeVine's free chancing engine, which accounts for all quantifiable elements of your application, including not just GPA but also course rigor, test scores (if you have them), and extracurriculars to give you personalized odds of acceptance at Virginia Tech and hundreds of other colleges: https://www.collegevine.com/admissions-calculator

This tool will also give you suggestions on how to improve your chances, whether by raising your GPA slightly or some other step, like earning a leadership position in one of your extracurriculars.

Or, if you want tips on how to strengthen the more intangible aspects of your application, I'd check out this blog post from CollegeVine, which breaks down how to tackle Virginia Tech's school-specific supplemental essays: https://blog.collegevine.com/how-to-write-the-virginia-tech-essays/. The essays are a great opportunity to showcase what you have to offer beyond the numbers.

Keep working hard and good luck!
