Johns Hopkins SAT Requirement?

Hey folks, I'm looking to put my application for Johns Hopkins. Just a quick ask, does Johns Hopkins still require SAT scores for admission? Would appreciate any insights!

Hello,

Actually, as of the 2024-2025 application cycle, Johns Hopkins is still operating under a test-optional policy. However, do be aware that at highly selective schools like Johns Hopkins, you generally want to showcase your strengths in as many ways as possible. So, submitting a test score is still a good idea for many students, even though doing so is not required.

For detailed guidance on how to navigate test-optional policies, I'd check out this blog post from CollegeVine: https://blog.collegevine.com/does-test-optional-mean-test-optional/

If you submit a test score, you'll ideally want to fall within the middle 50% of accepted students at Johns Hopkins: between 1530-1560 on the SAT, or around 34-35 on the ACT. Being within or above these ranges doesn't guarantee admission, while being below them doesn't automatically equal rejection, but they are a good general target. Just make sure to still invest in other areas of your application, as at a school as selective as Johns Hopkins, no single credential will guarantee acceptance on its own.

If you want to know how your application as a whole stacks up at Johns Hopkins, I'd check out CollegeVine's free chancing engine, which accounts for all quantifiable elements of your application, including not just test scores but also GPA, course rigor, and extracurriculars to give you personalized odds of acceptance at Johns Hopkins and hundreds of other colleges: https://www.collegevine.com/admissions-calculator

This tool will also give you suggestions on how to improve your chances, whether by raising your SAT score slightly or some other step, like earning a leadership position in one of your extracurriculars.

Or, if you want tips on how to strengthen the more intangible aspects of your application, I'd check out this blog post from CollegeVine, which breaks down how to tackle Johns Hopkins' school-specific supplemental essay(s): https://blog.collegevine.com/how-to-write-the-johns-hopkins-university-essays/. Especially at selective schools like Johns Hopkins, the essays are a great opportunity to showcase what you have to offer beyond the numbers.

Good luck with your application!
