GPA to get into Yale University?

Hello everyone, I'm a high school junior and Yale is my dream school. Can anyone tell me what GPA I should ideally be hitting to get into Yale University?

Yale University is one of the most competitive colleges in the U.S, and as you might expect, students accepted there typically excel academically. While there's no hard-and-fast rule or cutoff, a general rule of thumb is that successful applicants often have GPAs at the very top of their high school class.

Yale doesn't publish an average GPA for its accepted students, but we know that nearly all successful applicants have GPAs in the A range (above a 3.8 unweighted), and most had GPAs of 4.0 unweighted or close to 4.0 weighted. It's worth noting that Yale uses a holistic review process, which means not only your GPA but also your course rigor, test scores where applicable, extracurricular involvements, letters of recommendation, and essays will play significant roles in your application.

Remember that course rigor is just as important as the GPA itself. Yale wants to see that you are challenging yourself with your coursework. This means taking a number of AP or IB level classes if your school offers them.

It's also crucial to remember that a high GPA alone won't guarantee admission. Your extracurricular involvement matters a lot too. Yale, like many top universities, tends to prefer students with a highly-developed specialty (also called a "spike") rather than well-rounded students.

Keep in mind that the information I've provided should be used as a guideline, not a rule. There are admitted students who fell below these ranges and rejected students who exceeded them. Despite the high standards, don't let the statistics discourage you from applying if Yale is your dream school. It's always worth putting forth your best effort and application. Good luck!
