Maxing out the ACT score

Hey guys, anyone out there achieved the highest possible ACT score, or knows someone who has? What was the preparation process like? Was there a specific strategy or study schedule that helped in getting there? Feeling slightly stressed and could do with a bit of guidance.

Responding as a college admissions counselor, aiming for a "36" ACT score is indeed a significant and rigorous goal, and it's admirable that you're aiming high. However, do keep in mind that a perfect ACT score isn't a guarantee of admission into your dream college. Colleges do consider your holistic application, which includes your grades, essays, extracurricular activities, and interviews, aside from standardized test scores.

Now, regarding achieving a high ACT score, it's generally recommended to start by taking a full-length practice test. This will help you gauge where you currently stand and identify the areas where you need to improve. The ACT has 4 sections: English, Mathematics, Reading, and Science, so understanding your strengths and weaknesses in each section is key.

Next, establish a clear and consistent study schedule. Develop an effective study plan and stick to it. Try to allocate more hours to your weak areas, but don't entirely neglect your strengths.

To elevate your study strategy, work on understanding the ACT patterns and question types - seeing the patterns makes each test section more predictable. Also, effective time management during the test is critical. The ACT is a strictly timed test, and learning to manage your time well can make a significant difference in your score. Work on improving your speed while maintaining accuracy.

Keep doing a mix of content review, strategy sessions, and taking timed practice tests, and remember to thoroughly review your mistakes every time and understand what went wrong to avoid these mistakes in the future.

Lastly, a bit of encouragement for you: As you're preparing, keep in mind that substantial improvements are possible in ACT scores, and many students have achieved top scores. Each step you take on this path is a learning experience and just remember, the journey towards your goal is as important as reaching your goal itself.
