First SAT: Timing it right?

Hello! I'm trying to figure out when the best time would be for taking the SAT for the first time. I still want to leave some space for retakes if necessary. Any advice from those who've done it?

The timing of when to take your first SAT largely depends on your academic readiness and schedule, but typically, many students opt to take their first SAT in the spring of their junior year of high school. This approach has a few benefits.

Firstly, by this time, most students have learned a lot of the foundational content covered on the SAT in their high school classes. This can lend itself well to a stronger performance.

Secondly, taking the SAT in the spring of junior year leaves ample time over the summer and fall semester of senior year for potential retakes, which alleviates some pressure. You're not putting all your eggs in one basket, so to speak.

Furthermore, taking the SAT for the first time during this period allows you plenty of time to prepare beforehand. You might consider starting your SAT prep at least three to six months prior to your first test, and you'll want to make sure you're balancing this with your regular academic workload.

Remember that the new SAT format is digital, with two 32-minute modules for Reading and Writing and two 35-minute modules for Math. Make sure you adapt your preparation strategies to this new format and consider taking a few digital practice tests to familiarize yourself with it. Resources like the Bluebook™ app provide an excellent platform to simulate the testing experience.

Be sure to plan ahead, and best of luck in your SAT preparation!
