Highest SAT Scores: What Are They?

Hello, I'm aiming to achieve the highest possible score on the SAT. What's the maximum score I can get and how does it break down across different sections?

The maximum score you can achieve on the SAT is 1600. This score is a sum of your scores on two sections, each of which can earn you between 200 to 800 points.

The two sections are:

1. Evidence-Based Reading and Writing (ERW)

2. Math

The ERW section includes Reading and Writing & Language subsections, but your scores on these are combined into one overall ERW score. The Math section consists of two modules on which you’re allowed to use a calculator throughout.

Each of these two major sections is scored on a scale of 200-800, and these scores are then added together to get your composite SAT score.

If your goal is to get the maximum score, you'll need to strategically focus on mastering both of these sections equally well as they contribute equally to your overall score. For example, scoring perfectly on the Math section but poorly on the ERW section would mean you don't reach the maximum total score.

A good way to do this is to take timed practice tests, evaluate your strengths and weaknesses, and adjust your study plan accordingly. Taking full-length, timed practice tests can also help you familiarize yourself with the test format and the type of questions you’ll see on test day.

I hope this helps explain how the SAT scoring system works! Good luck in your SAT prepping!
