Hey guys, I'm currently on the hunt for some of the most liberal schools in the U.S. I'd love to be in an atmosphere where my liberal values can thrive. Anybody know of any lists or resources that includes such colleges?
Here are several schools that have a reputation for being politically liberal, thanks to their location, student body, faculty, and/or curriculum:
1. Oberlin College: Located in Ohio, Oberlin is well-known for its progressive politics. From its early adoption of co-education to its role in the abolitionist movement, Oberlin has a history of forward-thinking initiatives.
2. University of California, Berkeley: This institution is renowned for its history of student activism, particularly during the 1960s Free Speech Movement. Many students and faculty members continue to be politically active today.
3. Wesleyan University: This Connecticut institution is known for its open and progressive environment. The academic offerings include a wide range of topics in social justice and activism.
4. Sarah Lawrence College: This college, located in New York, is known for its highly individualized courses of study and liberal political atmosphere.
5. Reed College: Based in Oregon, Reed has a reputation for its academic intensity and liberal political culture, with many progressive student organizations and initiatives.
6. Vassar College: Vassar in New York offers a liberal ecosystem with numerous clubs and organizations supporting social justice and political activism.
7. University of California, Santa Cruz: UC Santa Cruz has been associated with liberal politics and activism since the 1960s, fostering a culture that encourages making positive changes in the world.
That being said, politics can vary immensely among students at any school, so don't forget to visit the campuses, talk to students, or utilize social media forums to get a feel for the overall political environment of each institution. Students at these colleges may be predominantly liberal, but this doesn't mean you won't encounter a wide range of political beliefs on these campuses.
