Hey guys, so I'm planning on applying to Princeton as one of my top choices. But, like a lot of us, standardized testing really isn't my strong suit. Does Princeton require the SAT for admission? Any advice would be great, thank you!
For the 2024-2025 application cycle, Princeton University has chosen to continue with its test-optional policy. This means that submitting your SAT scores is not a requirement for your application. You have the choice to include them if you feel they accurately represent your academic ability; if not, it's completely okay to leave them out.
An important thing to note, however, is that being test-optional isn't the same as being test-blind. If you choose to submit your SAT scores, the admissions committee will consider them as part of their review process. If you decide not to submit them, your application won't be negatively affected - the committee will just place a greater emphasis on other aspects of your application like grades, course rigor, essays, and extracurricular activities.
Another crucial point to remember is that Princeton - like many other selective institutions - focuses on a holistic review of each applicant. This means that every part of your application, from your academic performance to your personal essays and extracurricular involvements, is taken into consideration. So while standardized test scores might be a part of the puzzle, they're far from the only piece that matters.
So, you can focus on demonstrating your passions, skills, and commitment through the rest of your application materials. Your essays, in particular, are a wonderful opportunity to showcase your personality, experiences, and values to the admissions committee. Make sure to put in a lot of effort into them and your other application components to give yourself the best shot at getting admitted. Best of luck!
