Hello everyone, I'm a bit confused about the SAT test format. Could anyone explain how the test is structured? Like how many sections does it have and what kind of questions are usually asked?
Of course, I'd be glad to clarify the structure of the SAT for you. The digital SAT is now comprised of two sections: Reading and Writing, and Math.
In more detail:
1. The Reading and Writing section has two 32-minute modules, and you need to complete 54 questions in total, which gives you about 71 seconds per question. The types of questions you'll encounter here include reading comprehension (you'll read a passage and answer questions about it), and grammar and usage in the context of editing paragraphs/passages.
2. The Math section is also divided into two 35-minute modules where you'll answer 44 questions, giving you around 96 seconds per question. Math questions primarily test algebra, problem-solving and data analysis, some advanced mathematics such as trigonometry and complex numbers, and other topics like geometry.
Unlike the older version of the SAT, there isn't a no-calculator section anymore. You're allowed to use your calculator on both Math modules. Lastly, there is no separate writing or essay section in the current SAT format—the essay has been discontinued since 2021. Thus, in all, the test has 4 modules and a total 98 questions to be completed in 134 minutes.
Be sure to find some authentic SAT practice tests, like the ones on the Bluebook™ app, to get a sense of the content and pacing. Good luck!
