What are the requirements for admission at UIUC?

Hey everyone, does anyone know about the specific requirements for undergraduate admissions at UIUC? I can't seem to find clear info. I'm especially interested in knowing if they prefer SAT or ACT and what my GPA should be roughly. Thanks in advance.

The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) does not have a strong preference for either the SAT or ACT. Both tests are considered equally in the admissions process, so you should choose to take the test you feel you'll perform best on. As of the 2024-2025 application cycle, UIUC is still test-optional, so submitting your test scores is not required, though it can strengthen your application if your scores are strong for the school.

In terms of GPA, the middle 50 percent of admitted students generally have a GPA between 3.65-4.00 on a 4.0 scale. Remember, this range represents the middle 50 percent of admitted students. It means 25 percent of admitted students had a GPA below 3.65, and another 25 percent had a GPA of 4.0. If your GPA falls within or this range, it can make your application more competitive.

UIUC also places value on robust extracurricular involvement. Involvement in Tier 1 and Tier 2 activities, which demonstrate exceptional achievement or leadership, can particularly strengthen your application.

Lastly, your essays are a critical component of your UIUC application. Essays are your opportunity to showcase your personality, goals, interests, and engagement with your targeted field of study. It's important to make them as well-written and thoughtful as you can, demonstrating a clear understanding of what makes UIUC a strong fit for you.

Reviewing your academic profile within this context will give you a clearer picture of your competitiveness at UIUC. If your GPA or test scores (if you choose to submit them) fall within the range for admitted students and you have strong extracurricular experiences and essays, you'll likely have a good chance of admission.
