How Does SAT Score Sending Work?

Hey guys! Junior in HS here. Does anyone understand how the SAT score send process works? Are they directly sent to colleges of my choice by College Board or is there an additional step I need to take? Any help would be appreciated.

Sure, I'm happy to help clarify this for you. When you register for the SAT, the College Board will give you the option to select up to four colleges to which you can send your scores for free. These are known as "free score sends." You'll have to make this decision around nine days after you take the exam. Beyond the free score sends, there is a fee for each additional score report that you request.

It's important to remember that the College Board directly sends your scores to your chosen colleges. This process may take approximately 1-2 weeks for electronic delivery and a bit longer if the scores are being sent by mail.

Do keep in mind that some colleges permit you to self-report your test scores on your application, which could potentially save you some money. You'd only have to send an official score report after you've been admitted and confirmed that you're attending.

One thing to be careful about if you're using your free score sends: you won't be able to see your scores before you send them. If you think you didn't perform well on the test, you may want to skip using the free score sends for that test date.

I hope this helps! If you have more questions, feel free to ask.
