Hey everyone, bit stressed out here. So, I've heard a bit about the SAT fee waiver but I'm not totally sure of the process. Can someone explain how it works, and maybe how to apply if I meet the requirements? Really appreciate any insights.
Hello!
The SAT fee waiver is essentially designed to ensure that every student has an equal opportunity to take the SAT exam regardless of their financial circumstances. There are criteria that you'll need to meet in order to be eligible for the waiver. For instance, being enrolled in or eligible for the Federal Free or Reduced-Price Lunch program, being in a family whose income falls within the Income Eligibility Guidelines, being enrolled in a federal, state, or local program that aids low-income families, being a foster child or an orphan or homeless, or living in federally subsidized public housing could make you eligible.
Students who meet any of these criteria must contact a high school counselor. Only a school counselor, principal, or other authorized official, including designated community organizations, can distribute these waivers. They're aware of the specifics of the SAT and can guide you through the listing procedures.
If granted, the waiver covers not just the SAT registration costs, but also offers additional benefits such as free Score Reports to be sent to colleges, free Question-and-Answer Service (QAS) or Student Answer Service (SAS), and application fee waivers at participating colleges. So, it’s quite comprehensive in its offerings!
One small point to note: Fee waivers cannot be used for late registration, only regular or rush registration.
I hope that helps clear things up a bit! If you're still unsure, I would recommend speaking to a counselor or guidance officer at your school for more personalized advice.
