Average SAT Math scores?

Hey y'all, I'm trying to get a sense of where I stand. Can anyone tell me what is the average score on the SAT Math section? And how it changes from year to year? I'm more of a humanities person, so I'm feeling a bit nervous about my math score. Appreciate any help you can give!

You're not alone in your concern, as the math section can be a stumbling block for many students, especially if their strengths lie more in the humanities. To give you a bit of an idea, the average SAT Math score typically ranges around 530-540 out of a maximum of 800. This value has been quite consistent over the years with minor fluctuations.

It's important to note, though, that this is just an overall average. Depending on the schools or programs you're aiming for, you might want to target a higher score. For example, more selective universities often have higher average SAT Math scores with some even averaging in the high 700s.

Remember that improvements are always possible with targeted practice and preparation. It might be useful to identify your weak points in the Math section and work on those areas specifically. Also, keep in mind, colleges evaluate your application as a complete package, not just your scores.

Good luck, and don't get too stressed—the SAT is just one part of your college application. There are certainly humanities-focused schools that understand some students excel in different areas and will consider that context when evaluating your application.
