Why Tufts?

Okay, bear with me guys. I'm hearing Tufts thrown around a lot in college talks recently, but I'm not super familiar with what makes it special. Why do you guys think it's a good choice, or why are you personally interested in it? I'd really appreciate some inside perspective!

Tufts University has a reputation for providing an academically challenging environment with a diverse and enthusiastic student body. Historically, it's known to provide a strong interdisciplinary education, meaning that students are encouraged to explore different fields and fit their education to their unique interests and career goals.

For example, it offers combined degree programs with the School of Engineering, the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, and the Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy. That means that a student can simultaneously pursue an engineering degree and an art degree, or combine a biology and nutrition degree–options that may not be available at other institutions.

Not only does Tufts excel academically, but it actively prioritizes service, global awareness, and active citizenship. Tufts encourages students to be active in their communities and engage with global issues through its programs like Tisch College of Civic Life and the Jonathan M. Tisch College of Civic Life. Many students really enjoy this commitment to active citizenship and feel it gives the education they receive a larger purpose.

Furthermore, if you're interested in research, Tufts offers extensive research opportunities even at the undergraduate level. Students have access to research in everything from bioengineering to child development, often alongside acclaimed faculty in their fields.

However, what draws many students to Tufts is its community. Many describe it as collaborative, intellectual, passionate, and quirky. The school's size (just the right balance between a small liberal arts college and a large research university) allows for a close-knit community while still offering a range of opportunities.

Keep in mind, every college has a different 'feel' or personality; attending a campus tour, sitting in on a class, or talking with a current student might give you a real sense of whether Tufts would be a good fit for you. These are just some of the things that make Tufts stand out!
