Hey guys, I'm starting to prep for my SAT and I want to set a goal score. I'm a tad bit confused by the scoring system, though. What are the score ranges we're looking at for each section?
The SAT, now digitally administered, consists of two sections: Math and Evidence-Based Reading and Writing (ERW). Each section is scored on a scale of 200 to 800, with the maximum total score being 1600.
The ERW section includes a reading portion and a writing and language portion. The Reading section has 27 questions that you need to answer in 32 minutes. The Writing and Language section also has 27 questions, which you also need to complete in 32 minutes.
The Math section has 44 questions which you must answer in 70 minutes, divided into two 35-minute modules. Unlike the previous version of the SAT, you are allowed to use a calculator on all of these questions.
Your raw score in each section (the number of questions you answered correctly) is converted to a scaled score using a process called equating, which ensures that scores are comparable across different test versions.
The total duration of the digital SAT is 134 minutes, to complete 98 questions.
While your precise goal score will depend on the colleges you're aiming for, understanding the SAT's scoring structure can help you strategize your studying effectively. Best of luck with your test prep!
