Hey everybody, I'm really anxious because I've been dreaming to get into UMICH for a long time now. I want to know, what's the realistic GPA to be aiming for to have a shot? Do they take weighted or unweighted too? I'm a hardworking student and I'm trying my best to keep up my grades. Thanks in advance!
The University of Michigan (UMich) is highly selective, and they look for students who have excelled throughout high school. As a rule of thumb, successful applicants typically have high GPAs. The middle 50% GPA range for incoming freshmen in Fall 2024 was about 3.8 to 4.0 for unweighted GPA.
UMich does take a look at both weighted and unweighted GPAs, but they also consider the rigor of the courses you have taken. They're interested in seeing that you've challenged yourself with AP, IB, honors, and dual enrollment courses, if they were available at your high school.
Remember that while GPA is important, UMich uses a holistic review process, considering other aspects like your SAT/ACT scores, extracurricular activities, recommendation letters, and personal essays. If your GPA's slightly lower than the average but you have a strong application otherwise, don't be discouraged from applying.
Keep up the hard work, and best of luck with your application!
