So, I got a 34 on the ACT recently. I'm pretty happy with it, but then again, I know the competition is intense. For those of you who've already been through the process, does this score stand up well amongst the competition? Any words of wisdom to help a stressed junior?
A score of 34 on the ACT is definitely an impressive achievement. It puts you in the top 1% of all test-takers and can make you a competitive applicant at most colleges and universities. However, test scores are just one piece of the puzzle when it comes to admissions, especially at the most selective institutions.
Colleges also look at factors like your academic rigor (AP and IB classes), your grades, extracurricular activities, leadership roles, community involvement, and more. They're interested in seeing a well-rounded application that demonstrates both academic aptitude and personal initiative. For instance, having some high-quality extracurricular activities (Tier 1 or 2) could significantly strengthen your application.
As you navigate through the rest of your junior year and into your senior year, focus on maintaining strong grades, making meaningful contributions to your extracurricular activities, and beginning to brainstorm and draft your college essays. Be sure that your essays are thoughtful and reveal aspects of your personality, interests, and experiences that aren't evident elsewhere in your application.
Good work on your ACT score and keep up the hard work!
