ACT Scores for UPenn

Hi guys, I’m a little bit jittery about the whole application process. I’m considering applying to UPenn, and I know it’s a reach school. For those with experience or knowledge, what ACT score should I aim for to have a shot at UPenn?

As you're probably aware, UPenn is indeed quite competitive and therefore typically requires high standardized test scores. While the University of Pennsylvania doesn't give exact score cut-offs, achieving in the top percentiles would be important.

For some context, previously, the middle 50% ACT range for admitted students was around 33-35. It means that if you score within that range, you'd be amongst the bulk of students admitted, but remember, there are still students admitted with scores both above and below these limits.

However, starting from the 2020-2021 admissions cycle, UPenn has adopted a test-optional policy. This means you have the choice to submit your test scores, but if you think your scores don't reflect your abilities or potential, you are not required to include them and your admission will not be disadvantageous.

UPenn, like many other universities, considers several factors in their admissions process. While your ACT score is certainly an important part of your application, remember it's not the only consideration. A strong profile will also demonstrate academic excellence through GPA and course rigor, extracurricular involvement, leadership experiences, and compelling essays. Hence, if your ACT score isn't as high as you'd like it to be, focus on these other aspects and make them as strong as possible.

Keep striving and good luck with your applications!
