950 PSAT Score: How Good or Bad Is It?

Hi, can anyone give me an idea of what a 950 PSAT score means? I'm a bit in the dark here. I'm not sure if I should be worried or okay with it. Does this predict an SAT score range? Appreciate any insights!

Sure, I'm glad to provide some insights. A 950 PSAT score is average, being right around the 50th percentile. It's important to view this as a starting point; the PSAT is primarily designed to give you a sense of your strengths and weaknesses as you prepare for the SAT.

Keep in mind the SAT and PSAT are not perfectly symmetric. An 1150 on the PSAT, for example, is around an 1260 on the SAT. This is due to differences in test content, difficulty level, and differing score ranges. Based on this, a 950 PSAT might translate roughly into an SAT score a bit above 950, likely around a 1090.

It's also important to note that your PSAT score is not a fixed destiny for your SAT score. You have the ability to improve. If you're interested in raising your SAT score, I'd recommend identifying areas you struggled with on the PSAT and focusing extra efforts on improving in those areas.

Remember, colleges understand that students grow and improve. If you're not satisfied with your PSAT score, take it as motivation to begin studying strategically for the SAT. There are many resources available, including practice tests and question banks that could help.

And lastly, remember your SAT score is just one piece of your college application. Although it’s important, it's not the only factor colleges consider when looking at your application. Your GPA, course rigor, essays, and extracurriculars all play an important role too.
