I'm really unsure about what I want to study in college. Can some of you share examples of the majors you're pursuing and why you chose them? It'd be super helpful to hear real-world experiences.
Certainly, it's normal to feel uncertain about choosing a major. Let me share a couple of examples that might give you some insight.
Example 1: Some students choose disciplines like Computer Science because they have an innate curiosity and passion for technology, coding, and problem-solving. Through this major, they get to express their creativity, develop new software, work on interesting projects, and even explore AI and machine learning. They often choose this major due to the diverse range of industries where their skills can be applied, from tech to finance, healthcare, & more. Plus, there's the added opportunity for innovation and entrepreneurial ventures, if that's something that interests them.
Example 2: There are students who are drawn towards majors like Sociology or Anthropology because they have a keen interest in understanding human behavior and societies in different geographies & cultures. This area of study provides them an opportunity to question and investigate the social norms we abide by, analyze historical trends and predict future ones. This major can lead to careers in social advocacy, community development, international relations, and even market research, to name a few.
Example 3: There are others who choose Business or Economics as they have a flair for understanding market trends, financial principles, and have an aspiration to contribute to corporate decision-making, or hope to start their own business someday. This major offers a blend of practical skills & theoretical knowledge and presents a wide scope of career opportunities.
It's always useful to remember that many college students change their major at least once after enrollment. Keep your options open, explore your interests, and most importantly, be patient with yourself. Choosing a major is a big decision, but not a irreversible one!
