Is an 1040 PSAT Score Any Good?

Hey guys, just stressing a bit here. I recently got back my PSAT score and I got an 1040. Is this a decent score? What kind of colleges should I be aiming for with this? Is there enough time to improve it before I take the SAT?

Hey there, no need to stress too much about PSAT scores as they're essentially a stepping stone to your SAT. An 1040 score on the PSAT is a little below average, but remember it's a benchmark to help you study for the real deal: the SAT.

When it comes to colleges, a lot depends on your personal goals, ECAs (extracurricular activities), GPA and many other factors, not just test scores. However, an SAT score equivalent to a 1040 PSAT might align with colleges with less selective admission criteria.

You still have time to improve, especially if you're a sophomore or junior. Studying methodically, identifying weak areas, practicing regularly are all strategies you can use to raise your score. It's also useful to take some full-length SAT practice tests to acclimate yourself to the test format and timing.

Lastly, many colleges have gone test-optional, meaning you don't have to submit an SAT or ACT score for admission. This policy allows you to focus on other crucial parts of your application like your GPA, your essays, and your extracurriculars.

Remember, a test score is not the end-all-be-all of college admissions. You've got many opportunities to show your strengths and potential! Keep at the hard work, and best of luck!
