What is generally considered a good Math SAT score?

Hey y'all, I recently got my SAT scores back and I'm pretty happy with my Math score but I'm not really sure where it stands. So what's a pretty good score in Math to aim for if you want to get into the more competitive colleges?

A "good" Math SAT score largely depends on the colleges you're applying to. For highly competitive colleges—as you mentioned—students often aim for scores in the higher ranges.

The SAT Math section is scored on a range of 200 to 800. A score of around 720 or above is typically considered competitive for more selective colleges. However, a "good" score can be below this range for less selective institutions and still be quite impressive.

Here's something to note: Dartmouth College, Harvard University, Purdue University, Brown University, Yale University, The University of Texas at Austin, and California Institute of Technology will require all applicants to submit an SAT or ACT score, as of the 2024-2025 application cycle. Other highly selective schools, such as Columbia University, Princeton University, Stanford University, University of Pennsylvania, Johns Hopkins University, New York University, and the University of Chicago remains test-optional.

Keep in mind that while your SAT Math score is certainly an important component of your college application, it's just one part of it. Your GPA, rigorous courseload, personal essays, extracurricular involvements, and recommendation letters are also crucial parts of the picture. Colleges will look at these elements collectively when making admissions decisions.
