Hi guys, as I continue my college search, I'm curious about whether or not Northeastern is test optional? I understand some colleges went test optional due to Covid, but is this a temporary or permanent change for Northeastern?
Indeed, Northeastern University is still test optional for applicants. This approach has been extended beyond the immediate response to COVID-19 disruptions. While many universities first shifted to a test-optional policy as a result of the pandemic, Northeastern has decided to maintain this policy in order to ensure a holistic review of each and every application.
By choosing this path, they aim to place less emphasis on a single examination and instead evaluate the entire breadth of your high school career including your academic achievement, course rigor, and extracurricular involvement. In other words, your SAT or ACT score is just one among many pieces of information Northeastern considers if you decide to submit them. However, if you feel that your test scores do not accurately represent your capabilities, you can leave them off your application without detriment. When applying, remember they're looking to assess your potential based on your overall high school experience, not just one test.
