Exploring Performing Arts Colleges in California

I'm super interested in performing arts and was hoping to study that in college. I live in California but I'm kinda overwhelmed with the options. Can anyone recommend some good performing arts colleges around here and what their programs are like?

Absolutely! California has excellent performing arts colleges to consider. Let's focus on a few standouts:

1. University of Southern California (USC): The USC School of Dramatic Arts offers a BA, BFA, and minor in theatre, as well as an MFA program. Their theatrical production facilities are renowned and the program's curriculum is designed to mold well-rounded artists. They also offer the opportunity to gain real-world acting experiences in the thriving Los Angeles theatre community.

2. California Institute of the Arts (CalArts): Known for their collaborative environment, CalArts offers a variety of degrees in performing and visual arts. Students get hands-on experience starting from their first year. They also have strong connections to professionals and job placements within arts industries.

3. UCLA's School of Theater, Film, and Television: UCLA’s programs are highly competitive and are recognised for their faculty of professional artists and critical studies courses. Their theater program is conservatorially-based, focusing on developing the practical skills every actor needs.

4. Chapman University: Chapman's College of Performing Arts has a close-knit, collaborative atmosphere and offers degrees in theatre, music, and dance. Chapman is located in Orange, a quick drive from Los Angeles for industry opportunities.

5. San Francisco Conservatory of Music: Primary focus is on music but it also offers a Technology and Applied Composition (TAC) program which includes scoring for video games and film, making it a unique option.

All of these schools tend to value practical hands-on experience and immersion in your area of study over just classroom learning. I would suggest touring a few of these colleges if possible and speaking with current students and faculty to gain a better understanding of each individual program. Good luck!
