The application process for the Research Science Institute (RSI) at MIT involves a few steps:

1. Completing the Online Application: This includes filling out all personal and academic information, providing details of extracurricular activities, and detailing any past research experiences you might have had.

2. Writing Essays: The application typically has three essays. One of them asks you why you're interested in attending RSI and how you expect it to help you in your future academic and career aspirations. Another asks you to talk about a challenging scientific problem you've tackled. The third one gives you an opportunity to talk about your scientific research interests. It's crucial to take time and craft thoughtful, reflective essays that highlight your passion for research and science.

3. Recommendation Letters: You'll need to provide two recommendation letters. One should be from a mathematics or science teacher who can speak to your abilities in the field, your work habits, and your potential for research. The other can be from a teacher in any subject who can speak to your character and your involvement in school activities outside of academics.
