ACT Exam Subjects breakdown assistance

Hey folks, anyone got a clear list of subjects that we're supposed to cover for the ACT exam? As a junior, I'm a bit confused about what to focus on during my prep. Thanks!

Sure, happy to clarify that for you!

The ACT is broken down into four broad sections, and each tests various high school curriculum focal points.

1. English: This section contains 75 multiple-choice questions that test your knowledge in punctuation, grammar and usage, and sentence structure. It will also assess your understanding of strategy, organization, and style within provided passages.

2. Mathematics: This section has 60 multiple-choice questions. Here, you'll use reasoning skills to solve practical problems in math. The subject areas include pre-algebra, elementary algebra, intermediate algebra, coordinate geometry, plane geometry, and trigonometry.

3. Reading: This section presents 40 multiple-choice questions designed to measure your reading comprehension. It features four sections, representing social studies, natural sciences, prose fiction, and humanities.

4. Science: Lastly, the science section has 40 multiple-choice questions. Rather than testing your science knowledge directly, it checks your interpretation, analysis, evaluation, reasoning, and problem-solving skills. The content includes topics from biology, chemistry, Earth/space sciences, and physics.

Stand-alone, optional section:

5. Writing: The optional writing section asks you to write an essay and measures your writing skills emphasized in high school English classes and entry-level college composition courses. You'll be given a topic with differing perspectives and asked to construct an argument. Even though it's optional, many colleges recommend it, so check with the schools you're interested in applying to.

Remember, while prepping, focus not just on the subjects included but also the respective formats of how they're tested. Multiple choice strategies are essential too. Good luck with your preparation! You're doing a great thing by starting early and seeking help.
