Seeking D3 Schools Near Me

Hey everyone! I want to play sports in college but not at the expense of my studies or social life. I think D3 schools are probably my best bet. Can anyone recommend a way to find D3 colleges near my area or share some insights on life at a D3 school? Thanks for any help!

Absolutely, it sounds like a Division III (D3) college would be a great fit for your athletic and academic interests! The NCAA has a really handy tool right on their website that lets you search for schools by sport and division, so you can find D3 schools with your sport near your area.

As for life at a D3 school, these colleges provide a less intense but still enjoyable sports environment. Unlike Division I and II, D3 schools do not offer athletic scholarships. This allows athletes to focus more on their academics and balance their time between school work, sports, and social life. Practices, games, and travel commitments are less demanding, which offers a flexible schedule.

Furthermore, athletes at D3 schools often feel a part of the general student body, and less separated from their non-athlete classmates compared to larger Division I and II schools. This sense of community is especially noticeable at smaller colleges.

To give you an example, at a school in the NESCAC (Liberal Arts D3 conference), like Amherst or Williams, you would have about a 2-hour practice every day with additional game time on weekends. At the same time, however, you would also be in advanced classes, potentially conducting research with professors, participating in clubs or Greek life, and hanging out with friends - both athletes and non-athletes.

Hope this gives you a good idea of what life as a D3 athlete could look like!
