Length of SAT exam: How much time should I plan for?

Hey guys, so I'm starting to prepare for the SAT and I've been wondering how long does the actual exam take? I want to ensure I can manage my time wisely during the test. Thanks!

The SAT exam, which is fully digital as of Spring 2024, takes a total of 134 minutes to complete. This does not include breaks or the time spent on instructions and setup. Here's a breakdown of the structure:

1. Reading and Writing: This section is divided into two 32-minute modules, with a total of 54 questions. So you have roughly 71 seconds per question.

2. Math: Just like the Reading and Writing section, this one comprises two 35-minute modules, totaling 44 questions. You will have approximately 96 seconds, or a little over a minute and a half, for each question.

There will typically be short breaks between the modules, so the overall time you'll spend for the exam, including breaks, will likely be around 3 hours. It's essential to remember that while your actual "test time" will be 134 minutes, the total time commitment, including setup and breaks, could be slightly longer.

Remember, part of test preparation is getting comfortable with the timing structure of the exam. Timing yourself while practicing can be an extremely useful strategy. Good luck!
