Comprehensive List of Division I Colleges by State

Does anyone have a link or source to a list of Division I colleges sorted by state? I'm considering a school with a strong sports program and it'd be helpful to compare options.

While I don't have a comprehensive list available to provide, the NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) regulates division I colleges and you can definitely get this information on their official website. There, you'll find up-to-date lists about all schools participating in Division I athletics.

Remember, however, that not all division I schools are the same. They are divided into several conferences and the level of competition can differ quite a bit. Just because a school is division I does not necessarily mean it will have a nationally competitive team in every sport.

It's also important to look beyond the division designation. You should also consider the specific sports program you're interested in, the academic opportunities at the school, and whether the school's culture and values align with yours. For instance, a school might have a nationally ranked football team, but their golf program may not be as strong.

Remember that being in Division I only means the school has a certain number of scholarships and sports, it is a good indication of the school's investment in athletics, but it doesn't mean the school has a better program in the sport you're interested in. So, also check sports-specific rankings, and definitely reach out to coaches to learn more about their programs! College athletics is a big commitment, so you want to find a school where you'll be happy athletically, academically, and socially.
