What SAT scores should I aim for Cal Poly?

Hi everyone, it's a junior here and I'm interested in applying to Cal Poly. I'm set to take my SAT pretty soon, but I'm not quite sure about the score range that would boost my chances for acceptance. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks a ton!

Hello! As per the California State University (CSU) system policy for the 2024-2025 application cycle, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo is test-blind. This means they do not consider SAT or ACT scores in the admissions process at all, so you won't have to worry about achieving a certain score range for this school.

However, this doesn't mean they don't care about academic performance. They'll still look at your high school grades, AP courses, and other academic credentials, so make sure to focus on those.

That being said, if you're also interested in applying to other schools that do require or consider SAT scores, you should aim for the highest score possible. The average SAT score for many universities often fall within the 1200 to 1600 range, and more selective schools often have a middle 50% SAT score over 1400.

Also, even though Cal Poly is a test-blind school, preparing for and taking the SAT can still be a beneficial experience. It can help you develop skills in problem-solving, critical thinking, and time management that will be useful in college and beyond.

Always remember that college admissions involve more than numbers, and holistic aspects such as your extracurricular involvement, leadership experiences, and personal essays play a significant role.
