Hello everyone. I've been looking into Ivy League schools recently, and Dartmouth caught my attention. However, I'm unsure about the SAT scores they accept. Does anyone know about this? Thanks for all the help!
Dartmouth College, like many Ivy League schools, does not have a specified minimum or "cutoff" SAT score for applicants. That being said, we can use the roundup data of admitted students to get an idea of what they typically accept.
The middle 50% SAT score range for Dartmouth’s recently accepted students is generally around 1470-1570. To be more specific:
- For EBRW (Evidence-Based Reading and Writing), the range is about 730-780.
- For the Math section, it's about 740-790.
Keep in mind that these are just averages and ranges. There are students who get admitted with scores that fall below these ranges and others who do not get admitted despite having scores above these ranges.
Admissions consider your application holistically, and your SAT score is just one aspect of it. A strong application will also showcase your academic performance (such as GPA and course rigor), extracurricular involvement, personal essays, recommendation letters, and other factors.
However, you'll want to aim to be at least within this middle 50% range to be competitive — being above this middle 50% would be even better. A competitive SAT score can certainly bolster your application and it's an integral part of your Academic Index which Dartmouth uses in its admissions process.
But don't forget about the rest of your application! Dartmouth is particularly interested in candidates who've shown substantial engagement within a few areas (known as a "spike"), rather than those who mildly participate in many areas. Hope that helps!
