ACT vs. SAT Score Comparison

Greetings folks! So a quick question here: What's the deal with comparing ACT scores to SAT scores? How do they equate to each other, and can someone provide some comparison charts or resources? Cheers in advance!

Hello there! Comparing ACT and SAT scores can sometimes seem like comparing apples to oranges because they don't align directly. However, there is a way to understand how they equate to each other generally.

The ACT Test comprises four sections (English, Mathematics, Reading, and Science) and each section is scored on a scale of 1-36. The four section scores are then averaged to get your composite score, also out of 36.

The SAT Test, on the other hand, includes two sections (Evidence-Based Reading and Writing, and Mathematics), each scored on a scale from 200-800. The two section scores are added together to get your total score, which ranges from 400-1600.

To understand the correlation between the two, the makers of both tests periodically release a concordance table. This table equates scores from both tests, aiding in comparing an SAT score to its corresponding ACT score.

For instance, an ACT composite score of 31 might be equivalent to an SAT total score around 1410. Similarly, an SAT score of 1560 could equate to an ACT score of 35.

Unfortunately, we can't post any official tables or charts here, but you can easily find the latest SAT and ACT concordance table with a quick online search. It would provide you a more comprehensive understanding of how SAT and ACT scores correlate. Keep in mind these are direct comparisons and the admissions committee at a given college may interpret scores slightly differently.

Keep in mind that most colleges accept both SAT and ACT scores and they don't prefer one test over the other. The best strategy is to choose the test that suits your strengths and skills the best. Hope this helps, good luck!
