What does the SAT measure?

Hey everyone! I'm studying for my SATs and sometimes I just wonder, what exactly is this test measuring? Is it just academic knowledge? Or is it also about problem-solving? I'd really appreciate some clarity!

The SAT is a standardized test that attempts to measure your readiness for college by assessing skill sets needed for academic success. It focuses primarily on two areas: Math and Evidence-Based Reading and Writing.

While it does measure your understanding in these core academic subjects, it is important to note that the SAT is also designed to gauge your problem-solving and critical thinking abilities. The Math section, for example, includes questions that not only require basic computational skills but also effective problem-solving strategies.

The Evidence-Based Reading and Writing section assesses how well you comprehend what you read and how effectively you can identify key points and draw inferences. The writing portion tests your ability to express ideas clearly and concisely, maintaining standard English language conventions.

In sum, while the SAT does test certain academic knowledge, equally, it evaluates a student's ability to apply this knowledge, think critically, and solve problems. It may not directly test all that you have learned in high school, but it does aim to measure the skills necessary for success in college.
