Physical Fitness Requirements for Military College

Hey guys, I'm interested in joining a military college but I'm a tad bit on the heavier side. Should I be worried? Do they have specific weight or fitness requirements to admit students? Thanks for your guidance!

Absolutely, military colleges do pay particular attention to the physical fitness of their applicants. That being said, you should not feel discouraged if you're currently feeling out of shape. These colleges often look more for a demonstrated commitment to improve your physical agility and endurance.

Each military college tends to have slightly different physical fitness requirements. For example, the U.S. Naval Academy's Candidate Fitness Assessment includes a basketball throw, pull-ups/flexed-arm hang, shuttle run, crunches, push-ups and a one-mile run. West Point (the U.S. Military Academy), on the other hand, uses a slightly different set of tests. They have the West Point Candidate Fitness Assessment which includes exercises like push-ups, a standing long jump, a shuttle run, sit-ups, pull-ups, and a 1-mile run.

As far as weight is concerned, there isn't a specific weight requirement. However, these institutions follow the Department of Defense's guidelines regarding body weight and composition. Exceeding the weight or body fat percentage standards could potentially disqualify a candidate, but these standards vary depending on your height, age, and gender.

Bear in mind that you can start working on your physical fitness right now, as gradual but consistent improvements will help you meet these standards. Regular cardiovascular exercise, strength training, and a healthy diet can go a long way in preparing you for the physical challenges of attending a military college.

In summary, while there are physical fitness requirements, they aren't meant to exclude people - they're designed to ensure that students can handle the physical demands of military life. With dedication and discipline, many people can meet these standards or make meaningful progress towards them.
