MIT Application Process: How to get started?

Hey guys! MIT has been a dream school for me. Can someone guide me through the process of applying to MIT? Thanks in advance!

Sure, I'd be happy to break down the application process for MIT!

1. Deadlines: First things first, pay attention to the deadlines. MIT has two main rounds for application - Early Action (EA) and Regular Decision (RD). The deadline for EA is November 1st and for RD it's January 1st. Please note, MIT's EA is non-binding.

2. MIT Application: MIT uses its own application portal, MyMIT, and does not participate in the Common App or Coalition App. You'll create a MyMIT account after which you can fill out the MIT Application.

3. Evaluation forms: MIT requires two evaluation letters filled by your teachers. One should be from a maths or science teacher, and the other from a humanities, arts, or social sciences teacher.

4. School Report: Along with your transcript, you will need your school counselor to fill out the Secondary School Report which includes an evaluation form and a school profile.

5. Standardized Tests: As of the 2024-2025 application cycle, MIT still requires standardized test scores. You can submit either the SAT or ACT, and they do not have a preference for either one.

6. Test of English as a Foreign Language: If you are a non-native English speaker, you might have to submit TOEFL scores. There are also a few alternative ways you can meet their English proficiency requirement.

7. Supplements: MIT has several short-answer and essay questions which are an important part of their application. Where a common application essay asks about your personal history or goals, MIT's supplements are pretty focused on your approach to problem solving, collaboration, and tendency towards introspection.

8. Application Fee & Waiver: There is a $75 application fee, but fee waivers are available if the fee presents a hardship to you and your family.

9. Interview: Once you apply, you'll need to conduct an interview with an MIT Educational Counselor. The interview is a valuable part of the application as it helps MIT get to know you better.

It's a substantial process but remember, the admissions committee at MIT is using each of these elements to understand not just your academic prowess, but also how you approach problems, your collaborative spirit, and your curiosity. Good luck!
