Updates on Virginia Tech's test-optional policy?

Quick question y'all—is Virginia Tech going test-optional for the upcoming admissions cycle? I'm figuring out my test prep plan for the year and wondering if I should allocate resources towards the SAT/ACT. Thanks in advance!

At this time, Virginia Tech remains test-optional for the 2024-2025 application cycle. This means your application will be evaluated without a standardized test score if you choose not to submit one. However, if you feel your SAT or ACT score is strong and reflects your academic abilities, submitting them could be beneficial.

Keep in mind, not submitting test scores can place a little more emphasis on other aspects of your application, such as GPA, course rigor, and extracurriculars, in demonstrating your academic strength. However, there are many ways through which you can bring out your academic prowess.

When deciding whether or not to prepare for a standardized test, consider how much time and resources this will require, and whether this might take away from other areas. If your current schedule affords you adequate time for test preparation without sacrificing your grades or involvement in extracurriculars—go for it! Always remember that demonstrating depth and commitment in your activities (also known as "spikes") is hugely beneficial in admissions.

Test-optional does not necessarily mean test-blind. If a student has a strong score, it may help improve their application. For instance, if your score is in the middle 50% range or higher for accepted students at Virginia Tech, it might be worth it to include the score in your application.

However, do verify this policy directly from Virginia Tech's admissions website or get in touch with their admissions office, as policies can change from year to year. Best of luck with your college applications!
