USC vs UCLA: Which is better?

Hey fellow students, I'm trying to decide between USC and UCLA. Both seem like incredible schools but I’m having a hard time weighing them up. I know 'better' can vary based on what you want but, generally speaking, any thoughts on which one is considered 'better'? Specifically looking at social life and academics. Thanks!

It's not easy to definitively say if one is necessarily 'better' than the other, as both USC and UCLA have their distinct advantages. Here's some information to help you decide.

When it comes to academics, both institutions boast strong programs across a wide range of disciplines. USC is known for its programs in Cinema and Television, continuing the legacy of its innumerable alumni making significant contributions in Hollywood. USC also shines in Business (Marshall School), Journalism (Annenberg), and Arts (Roski). UCLA, on the other hand, has strong programs in Psychology, Political Science, and Economics, Physics, Mathematics, Geography, Theatre, Art History, Philosophy, Music, and it's globally recognized for Life Sciences and Health Programs. Additionally, UCLA is considered a leading public research university. Overall, UCLA is considered to be the more prestigious school.

With regards to social life, both universities offer a vibrant campus life with countless events, clubs, and student organizations to participate in. Both campuses are located in dynamic Los Angeles, providing a myriad of cultural and entertainment opportunities.

Take into consideration that UCLA's tuition is typically lower than USC's (especially for in-state students), which might impact your decision depending on your financial situation.

Lastly, when deciding where to go, make sure to consider which factors are most important to you. Look at factors such as your desired major, possible career goals, financial situation, and campus environment. It could also be helpful to reach out to current students or alumni to hear about their experiences at these institutions.

Remember, the 'better' school will depend on what specifically you're looking for in your college experience. Each institution provides unique opportunities, and it's about finding the one that aligns most closely with your academic and personal goals.
