Translating a 3.6 GPA to a Letter Grade

Hey y'all. Disclaimer - I'm not all that clued up about American grading systems (international student here). Can someone tell me what a 3.6 GPA equates to in terms of a letter grade? It's a bit different from how we grade where I'm from.

Sure, I can help with that!

In the U.S. grading system, grades from A to F are assigned numerical values, usually on a 4.0 scale. Here's a rough translation:

A = 4.0 (excellent)

B = 3.0 (good)

C = 2.0 (satisfactory)

D = 1.0 (needs improvement)

F = 0.0 (fail)

When someone says they have a GPA of 3.6, it usually means their average grade falls somewhere between a B+ and an A-, leaning more towards an A-. It's important to note that this is an average across all classes, so this GPA doesn't necessarily mean the student got a B+ or A- in every class. They could have scored A in most of their classes with a few B's, or even some mix of A's, B's, and C's.

Also, some schools use a weighted GPA that takes course difficulty into account, which could allow for a GPA higher than 4.0. However, a GPA of 3.6, weighted or unweighted, is typically considered good.
