Referrals for Joining the Military

Hey everyone, I'm seriously considering the military route after graduation. Does anyone know if I'll need to provide references during the enlistment process? If so, are there any particular people who would be best to ask? Would appreciate any advice!

Joining the military after graduation can be a rewarding path! You're right that having references can be an integral part of the enlistment process, but not in the way you might be thinking.

In the process of enlisting, specifically during security checks and creating security clearances, you may be asked to provide contacts who can vouch for your character. This could include people like former teachers, employers, or coaches. As such, it's helpful to have references on hand, but you aren't required to get individual letters of recommendation the way you might for a college application.

When deciding who to ask, consider people who can attest to your trustworthiness and reliability, as that's mainly what these checks will focus on determining. It may also be helpful to have people who can comment on your ability to handle pressure or show leadership, as those are important skills for a military career.

Before enlisting, it can also be beneficial to talk to current or former service members to get an understanding of what joining the military may entail. Their insights can be valuable in helping you make an informed decision. Good luck with your decision-making process!
