Is Rice University still test optional?

Hey everyone, I've been doing some early college research and I'm pretty interested in Rice University. I'm just a bit confused because some colleges have been switching their admissions policies due to COVID. Does anyone know if Rice is still test-optional? Thanks in advance!

Yes, Rice University has maintained its test-optional policy for the 2024-2025 application cycle. This means that submitting SAT or ACT scores is not required as part of your application. If you choose not to submit test scores, it will not penalize your application in any way.

Please remember that being test-optional doesn't necessarily mean that you shouldn't submit your test scores if you have them. If your SAT or ACT score is strong and you believe it will bolster your application, it could be beneficial to include. It will depend on your individual circumstances - if your scores are in the upper range of Rice's typically accepted scores, they can serve as a positive addition to your application.

Keep in mind, however, that admissions decisions at schools like Rice are not made solely based on test scores. They take into consideration many aspects of your application, like your high school coursework, grades, essays, extracurricular involvement, and more. Best of luck with your college applications!
